A Quirky Solution, if You Can’t Change your Inuit (QuickBooks, TurboTax) Email Address.
PROBLEM: In QuickBooks, I tried to change my Intuit Email Account Address, by updating my User ID or my Email address in Intuit, and clicked ‘Save’, I didn’t get any error message, but the email didn’t change. What?!?!?
Recently, I’ve gone through some big changes in my business (thank you very much, COVID-19). Hopefully it’ll all be for the better. But for now, the most important fallout is that I really need to change my Intuit User ID, as well as my Email address on file with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Mint.
Additionally, this may also help anyone who can’t change their TurboTax email address or User ID.
By the way, I called QBO support and they couldn’t help me. To my surprise, they suggested that I fill out a form that’s used for people who forgot their email or password, and upload some government documentation. But I didn’t forget either of these things! It’s a problem with the Intuit system.
Let me explain my situation – it might be just like yours.
The Cause of My Intuit QuickBooks/Mint Sign-In Problem
In my case, The User ID and Email address were different addresses. I was signed into Intuit/QBO as the email address listed under User ID.
You see, when signed in as the User ID, I wasn’t able to make any changes to the User ID or the Email address.
😞 Please Note: If your User ID & Email address already match, then this article will not help you.
The Solution When You Can’t Change Your Intuit Email Account Address
It seems like, in the case where the the User ID & Email address do not match, you cannot be logged in as the User ID if you want to Edit these email address. It’s ridiculous, but I found that you need to be logged in as the Email address. That’s key!!
- Log out.
- Open a private/incognito browsing window (directions here).
- Log in using your Email address (not your user ID). The next screen may find multiple User IDs, depending on your history with Intuit. Select the one you want to change & log in as normal.
- Now follow the same standard steps as you did before, and attempt to Edit the User ID. If you’re as lucky as me, it will actually work this time. :)
- Next, follow the same standard steps as you did before, and attempt to Edit the Email address. Again, if you’re lucky, the Email address will change to.
In conclusion, it is my hope that this article helped you get back on the road. Happy bookkeeping, my friends!
P.S. – I am not a bookkeeper, I don’t work for Intuit, and I will probably not be able to help with many follow-up questions, if your situation doesn’t closely match the one above. I’m really sorry about that. As a result, this article will probably only help very few people. But if it helps even one person… awesome! That’s what I’m here for.
